A Family Led Funeral is a funeral that the family and friends of the deceased remain in full control of. This includes all the associated arrangements from the paperwork, permissions, the content of ceremony and services through to the physical care of your loved one's body.

Get your creative juices flowing. The more thought, planning and effort you put

into your ceremony, the more engaging and meaningful it will be. Record a video to be played at your funeral, write a letter to be read on your behalf. Have gifts ready to give your friends and family. There is no limit to what you can do, if it is planned well.

A burial shroud is a large cloth that can be made from a variety of materials. Different cultures create Burial shrouds from cloth, animal skin, or plants like bamboo. You can purchase them in various sizes, fabrics, and styles.   Shrouds are almost always created from natural fibers. These materials are biodegradable and will allow the body to decay after burial. However, you can also find shrouds that naturally preserve the body. Today shrouds are commonly used in green burials, which helps these services be less damaging to the environment than traditional burial services.  Being involved in decorating your own shroud or having your family and friends decorate your shroud can be healing. It allows the expression of grief through creativity. I can get you started

POETRY AND PROSE

Who hasn't listened to a piece of music and been brought to tears? Music, live or otherwise can bring joy, comfort and healing. Why not have some percussion instruments that your family and friends can play during your ceremony. They may not feel comfortable to speak, but maybe they can bang a drum! Something to ponder.....

Upliting, comforting, thought provoking, healing. Poetry and prose a can do all of those and more. A well delivered and placed reading can evoke memories and ignite emotions. This in turn can start or encourage expressions of grief.

Writing your own story gives you the opportunity to tell it from your perspective. This could be a time to share with your family and friends how much you love them, give them messages of strength moving forward, or ask for forgiveness. What a beautiful legacy to leave.
